Maternal mortality is unacceptably high. Every day, about 830 women worldwide die from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. An estimated 303,000 women died during and after pregnancy and childbirth in 2015. Almost all of these deaths occur in low-income countries, and most of them are preventable. Women die as a result of complications during and after pregnancy and childbirth. Other factors that prevent women from seeking medical care during pregnancy and childbirth are the following:
